Maths paper tomorrow
Dear darlings,
How's the English paper today? Please post your comments!
For tomorrow, please read carefully and bring in your CAREFUL friend. However, don't be too careful that you lose track of time and have not time to complete the questions.
For Paper 1(Booklet A and Booklet B), it is meant for you to score. I have confident that all of you will be able to score.
For Paper 2, you must watch your time too. Remember what I said? If you are stuck for a while, circle the question and move on to the next. Check your answers and workings to minimise the chances of losing marks. This paper is meant for you to score at least a 52 marks.
How do I know? Remember I can predict? Ha! Ha!
What question will come out ? I don't know the exact questions but those concepts we learnt in class sure to come out!
Please revise your Primary 5 secret as well.
Remember to sleep early and have a good nite's rest and be ready to score tomorrow.
Livia, Julius, Vanessa, Zhi Qing - I am very sure my time spent on Saturdays with you are not wasted as you will give me my "result slip" to show me how well I have done. Please give me at least an A........*. I believe I deserve it !
Calculators - stickers please ask Mr K or Mrs Lee in the hall if you still did not receive them.
Set squares, protractor, rulers pencils, erasers, highlighters must all be ready in your pencil cases.
Models - use pencils to draw.
Handwriting - Be neat and legible.
Bring in all your sharpened "tools" to showcase your skills. You know what I mean?
If you think you can't solve a question, break it down and ask yourself quietly what variables are you given? What concept are you tested on?
I am sure you can solve part of the question in worse case scenario. Complete the 30 or 18 questions in Paper 1 and Paper 2 respectively.
Visualisation questions- remember the 4 golden rules?- Label, pull out, draw lines and cover to see big and small pictures.
Go and aim at the STAR tomorrow. I want to have the excuse to buy an expensive sunglasses to wear on 24 Nov. Please give me this opportunity!
Best wishes from your loving Mrs Mak.

For tomorrow, please be extra vigilant in reading your composition questions and take note of how you want to develop your stories. I am very confident that Mdm Madinah had gone through with you the tips on how to write a good composition. Stay focused and develop your story to capture your readers' attention.
Good phrases will definitely enhance your content.
For tonight, please rest well and be in bed by 9pm!
Have your breakfast and make sure you are at your best condition for examination.
All the best and aim for your STAR!
I would need those girls who helped me this morning in the hall to lend your hands to Mrs Lee to paste the labels on the chairs and park the chairs like you did. Jonessa, please help.... Thanks.
Be Kind to yourselves by giving yourselves the best...
Love you always,

Maths questions
Dear all,
Try out these questions on the rough papers and we will discuss them in class on Monday during Supplementary class.
1. On Monday, there were 600 more male adults than female adults at the farm. On Tuesday, the number of male adults decreased by 10% while the number of female adults increased by 20%. There were 1170 adults altogether at the farm on Tuesday.
(a) How many male adults were there at the farm on Thursday?
(b) If each farm ticket cost $8, how much money was collected from the sale of the tickets for the two days?
2. Mr Devran sold 160 more durian puffs than cream puffs on Wednesday. On Thursday, the number of durian puffs sold decreased by 10% while the number of cream puffs sold increased by 20%. A total of 459 durians and cream puffs were sold on Thursday.
(a) Find the number of durian puffs sold on Wednesday.
(b) If each puff was sold at $1.20, how much money did Mr Devran collect from the sale on Wednesday and Thursday?
3. Shop A sells a mobile phone for $494. This is 30% more than the price of a similar model in shop B.
(a) Find the price of the mobile phone in shop B.
(b) During a sale, both shops offered an equal percentage discount on the mobile phone. Henry bought the mobile phone in shop B and found that he paid $85.50 less than the discounted price in shop A. What was the percentage discount?
4. Shop A sells a digital camera for $512. This is 28% more than the price of a similar camera in shopB.
(a) Find the price of the digital camera in shop B.
(b) During a sale, both shops offered an equal percentage discount on the digital camera. Mr Roger bought the digital camera in shop A and found that he could have saved $84 if he had bought the digital camera in shop B. What was the percentage discount?
Do make good use of this weekend to recharge yourselves fully before the start of the school term.
Corrections for Practice 8a, 8b and 9a, please make sure you clear them.
Have a good weekend !
Love you,
Mrs Mak

Dear all,
Below is the raw results for your prelim science. Like English and Maths, I had arranged the results from descending order. Those names highlighted in red are those below the average marks.
Prelim Science ( highest 92.5, lowest, 60, average 77.8
For tomorrow, we will be going through the Prelim Maths Papers and then you will bring them home for signature as well as to "digest" your mistakes and make sure you understood where you had done wrongly and do not repeat the mistakes again.
The canteen will not be operating, so you have to bring your own snacks.
Hope you have been working hard the past few days. I will see you tomorrow at 7.30am in the classroom.
Love you always,
Mrs Mak

Preliminary Practice 8b
Dear all,
For Q13, angle z is the acute angle at point B. It is blocked by the shaded area of the triangle.
Do make use of these few days to reflect what you can do to ensure you can have a fruitful revision before 29 Sept. Be
S- specific (have a timeline to set yourself on the subject or topic you want to revise)
M- measureable ( how can you tell your revision is effective? )
A-achieveabe ( how do you know you have achieved your target or aim in that revision?
R- results ( if you were to do a parallel question on that concept, can you apply it and fully understand
how to solve the problem?)
T- timebound ( with one hour, can you maximise your time to revise or it was wasted because you have
squandered the time daydreaming or doing something else)
Meanwhile, I have done a rough calculation of your results based on class average and max and min score for Maths and English.
Do use it as a benchmark to gauge where you stand in class and pull up your socks!!!
Those who are above the class average, do not be conceited. Those who are below, make sure you do not stay at the bottom for PSLE!
Those in red are below class average. The names are arranged in descending order in terms of marks.
English (average : 78.6, highest : 91.3, Lowest : 59.5)
Maths (average : 83, Highest : 100, Lowest: 58)
For those who did well for this prelim, continue to work hard. For those who did not do as well as you had expected, reflect what went wrong and continue to work harder. I believe those who have the DRIVE and MOTIVATION and the THIRST for A*, you will get your A*. If you leave it to fate, then you will not get anything.

Maths Paper 23 Aug 2011
Dear darlings,
For the Maths Paper tomorrow, remember to bring your CAREFUL friend with you. Be meticulous in your checking. Ensure that ALL questions are attempted and workings are all shown. Please do not ASSUME the markers can read your mind if you do not show your workings.
Legible handwriting is crucial! Shi Jia, Yong Sheng, Surend, Aik Chong, Andrea, Zhi Qing, Ray, Wei Chen, Khoon Kiat, Wang Yao, please be EXTRA careful with your handwriting!
Calculators, set squares, Protractor, ruler and general stationeries must be with you in school.
For questions that requires rounding off, look carefully and round off carefully. For circles using pi, round off at the last step otherwise your answer will be affected. READ your questions with care.
Meanwhile, for your English paper, there are a few children who did not perform as well as expected. Please pull up your socks. Below are the few names that I could recall:
Heng Aik Chong
Kok Jin Jie
Tan Khoon Kiat
Liauw Yong Sheng
Liu Fan
Please ensure you do well for the rest of your papers, otherwise, your aggregate total will be affected.
As I always mentioned and repeated, no one subject is less or more important than another. They are ALL equally important as they carry the same weightings.
Last but not least, School bags! Bring a small bag.
-Your recess will be at 9am. You should finish the Paper 2 by 12pm. So you only bring your Science stuff.
- Place your school bag neatly in two rows outside the classroom.
Most importantly for tomorrow, READ your questions carefully and be at your best behaviour. Your future is in your hands.
Love you,
Aunty Loh Soh Mah

Oral Day 1
Dear Darlings,
How's the Oral for Day 1 ? For those having the English Component, was it easy? Were you able to describe the picture? Conversation? Were you able to engage the examiners? I hope everything went on smoothly. How about the Mother Tongue Component?
Post your comments.
Stay composed and look confident for the oral tomorrow. Continue to give it your best shot. All the best for tomorrow.
After that, concentrate to prepare for your Prelim for next week.
On Monday, please do not bring a big heavy bag to school. Have a small bag with ALL the necessary stationery in your pencil case, a story book. You will be having examination for the whole day, there will not be time for much teaching. Bring your secret recipe and good attitude and your CAREFUL friend.
Prelim is important as it tells you how well prepared you are for your PSLE.
Love you always,
Mrs Mak

Last Minute advice
Dear darlings,
For those who are in the first session, remember to report by 7.10am. Please inform your parents that you will be kept in the auditorium after your oral till around 10 plus. Latest by 10.30am you will be dismissed.
Bring your foolscap and pencil case.
For those in the second half, your reporting time is by 9.30am. After the oral, you will head straight home.
Look through those oral practices you had and go through them once and do make use of good phrases for your picture discussion. If possible, do try to see if you can link up the discussion with our STAR values, meaning you can say that if the boy had self-discipline, he would not be burning midnight oil to prepare for his examinations. He is imposing unnecessary stress on himself.
During your preparation time tomorrow, do go through in your mind how you are going to respond in the conversation component. Understand the question and if not clear, politely ask the examiner to repeat,
" Could you repeat the question?"
Think through carefully and not be narrow minded in your interpretation of the question, like the word "neighbour", you know what I mean?
Key word : ENGAGE your examiners. LOOK at the examiners during the conversation, not at your question paper. Maintain eye contact! Put on a smile :)
OPen your mouth to read. Read clearly and be audible, don't mumble.
Take note of your posture. NO FRIED FOOD! NO SPICY FOOD!
Introduce yourself : I am _________, my index number is __________.
May I take a seat? (Maintain eye contact!)
BE A STAR FOR YOURSELF TOMORROW.
You have come so far, waiting for this day. Give it your BEST SHOT!
Spiritually with you,
Mrs Love you dearly...

Oral examinations
Dear Darlings,
Please stay focused and give the best of yourself in this coming Oral examinations.
Nobody can make you do what you can do best, only yourself.
Do not allow yourself to be short changed by your poor attitude. You must continue to be a fighter and the urge to fight for a place in the better schools must always be your driving force.
What you need to know has been taught to you. It is then your chance to show off your application skills now to the examiners what know and are capable of doing better.
Nobody is born to fail. With perseverance and resilience, we will see success.
For Oral, remember that the examiners are here to give you marks, not deduct marks.
Please go and get the marks by doing what you can do best - Talk!
Show off your skills by engaging in intelligent conversation with the examiners. Look confident and leave a good impression with your well thought through answers.
Love you always,
Mrs Mak

Dear all,

Your help is greatly appreciated and the pupils whose books I could have misplaced would thank you from the bottom of their hearts as I know the content in the book is really important to them, or at least is dear to me.
